I went shopping the other day with LS from Savin’It-Up and another friend(hi Jesse). We went on our weekly end of the week shopping trip.  One of our usual stops is Walmart where we price-match from all our other local stores.  This week, I needed alot of staples that just so happen to be on sale at other stores and I did NOT have a coupon for most of them.  This made my OOP a little high for my taste but understandable.  I wanted you guys to know that you don’t ALWAYS get EVERYTHING for free.  Especially in California.  Yes I do get lots of free, or very close to free stuff ALOT, but sometimes, that’s just not possible.  The key is getting them as low-priced as possible.  For me, that means price-matching and using coupons on top of it.  I’m sorry I didn’t get a better pic.  I was so tired, I left the groceries on the floor for a while and when I came back, my mom had started putting them up but this is what my haul looked like bagged up.

Don’t be fooled. That basket holds alot. And there is lot on the floor.  I wish i could report that all of this was free, but i can’t.  I paid about $56 for everything.  Of course you can’t see what it all is but it includes, but limited to:

28 boxes of Pasta, breakfast sausage, 2 loaves bread, 2 jars of peanut butter, 12 bottles of  pasta sauce, 6 boxes of koolaid jammers, lots of fruits and veggies, and much more stuff I can’t remember right now.  It was a total of 98 ITEMS for less that $56 dollars.  I consider that a good deal even if some don’t.

Barilla Pasta .24 cent each Hurry and get it

I found a great deal.  Maybe you can too. The pasta below was only .24 cent each.  Pasta Barilla is on sale for .99 cent this week at Albertson’s.  I happened to have found a tear pad in Walmart for .75 cent off any Barilla Pasta or Sauce. Those coupons, combined with the sale at Albertson’s made for a great stock up price.  Free is always better but .24 cent is pretty freaking good. This is what I got less that $7 dollars

Relationships are the key

Building good relationships with your local cashiers, neighbors, and mail carriers can all help to increase your coupon savings.  Today let’s talk about Cashiers.

Your cashiers can be your biggest allies…….or opponents.  But you want them on your side.  A good relationship with your cashiers can be the difference between an easy, happy shopping experience and an awful experience.  He/she can push through questionable or non scanning coupons without question cause they know  you.  They can price match your items without question.  You won’t be met with attitude about having alot of items and coupons for each of these items.  Trust me, knowing the cashiers is awesome.  And easy to do.  You are there all of the time.  Find a nice one try to go to him/her all of the time. When you talk to them use their name.  Ask them about their day.  Tell them about a good sale that their store is having but that they may not be aware of. Just get the conversation going.  Also, thank them for doing a good job.  They get so many rude customers all day, it becomes a blur.  But they tend to somewhat remember the super nice ones. And if you remember their names and walk by their register and say hello before you start your shopping, it helps to cultivate the relationship.

Use these tips.  Take my advice.  It works wonders!!!!!!! I have GREAT shopping experiences 98% of the time and it has alot to do with the cashiers.

Trying a new store? Wanna join me?

When you are a couponer, especially a beginner, you get really attached to the stores you frequent.  Maybe it’s because they are coupon friendly.  Maybe because of the sales.  For whatever reason, the thought of couponing at a new store can be scary.  Scary but doable.

I told myself that I was going to conquer a new store in 2012.  As you may know, I am most loyal to CVS and Walmart.  Well lately, I have been thinking hard about Rite Aide. I like their rewards system ( from what I know so far) and I like the idea of conquering something new.  Plus they have great deals (from what I know so far).

So are you guys ready to take this journey with me?  Any stores you guys wanna conquer?

Even Couponing “pros” make mistakes……..

SO DON’T GET DISCOURAGED.  Yesterday, I had two transactions at CVS ALL PLANNED OUT.  I have my coupons ready and they have all the items I’m looking for in stock. YESSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!! My basket it filled and I am at the register.  Because my husband and I have different interest and spending habits and so on, we have two CVS cards…….his and mine.  Well for this haul, I needed to use both his and mine.  So i get started on my first of two transactions.  Items, check.  Salespaper, check.  Coupons, check. And then……… the dreaded BEEP.  Why is the register not accepting this coupon? Oh crap. Cause the coupon was a CVS coupon on my husband’s card and i had already started the transaction from MY card.  ANNNNNND because one of the coupons being used was loaded via the internet to my card, if we voided the transaction, I would not be able to use that coupon.  So I chose to continue with the transaction but it costs me two dollars.  TWO WHOLE DOLLARS.  I thought this deal would be about a $2.50 money maker after taxes  but it only turned out to be a $.50 cent money maker.

Still a GREAT deal but STILL a mistake was made.

Yes, u read that right, .50 cent per box!!!!!! Yay. Happy shopping.
